March 6th, 2008

The kids in this new vid from Buraka Som Sistema floor me - they’re ridiculous! They be double jointed everywhere! M.I.A. is all up in it too and it looks a bit like her video for “Boyz”… But this has Sabrosa and Sabrosa slaaaaaaaays!!!!!!!

Buraka Som Sistema - “Sound of Kuduro” featuring DJ Znobia, M.I.A., Saborosa and Puto Prata

~This inspires me to ever higher levels of global krumpness~

“Sound of Kuduro” is off their full length debut Black Diamond, out this summer.

FADER Mag published a great article about Buraka Som Sistema that really helps map the varied influences on this song with history lessons like this:

Lisbon-based trio Buraka Som Sistema make kuduro music, but their particular strain has been mutated by their relationship with the past and present of Europe’s dance music. Kuduro began in Luanda, Angola’s capital city, as far back as the late ’80s, when African producers trying to make techno and house invented something entirely new.

Here is BSS’s 1st video - the track is called “Yah!” and it’s the first single taken from the E.P. From Buraka to the World.

I agree. Saborosa slays. Best hardcore Angolan Kuduro I have heard is Puto Prata and Os Lambas.
