Those of you in the NYC area this weekend are hopefully excited about the FREE Citysol Party. You didn’t forget did you? Well, just in case you did, here’s a reminder…

The clean energy, interactive art and music festival opened tonight at 6pm with performances that included bicycle-powered turntablism by DJ Mistakes! Wow! The wheels of the bike turn the wheels of wax? Too cool! But, wait - you haven’t missed out, the festival runs all weekend long and there is great stuff happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday too!
Friday
Friday features a concert with Menomena and Beat the Devil at 7pm at the South Street Seaport. Don’t forget that you can bring your electric bill, and if you switch to a green energy package with ConEd you will get FREE DRINK TICKETS!
Saturday
Then, on Saturday, you can leisurely enjoy the whole day checking out Solar 1 exhibits and the solar- and biodiesel-powered Brooklyn Vegan stage! From 1pm-10pm you can view the Solar 1 installation as well as catch performances by:
Les Savy Fav
Land of Talk
The Besnard Lakes
O’Death
OCDJ
These Are Powers (ex-Liars)
The Budos Band
Frankpollis (starring Jackson)
and DJs from WNYU 89.1 FM
From 1pm-8pm there will also be a Green product marketplace co-presented by 3R Living and O2NYC.
If you haven’t heard The Budos Band yet, you are in for a treat! They rock, they swing, they’re gRRREAT! Listen to this sweet tune, “Chicago Falcon,” and if you like that, check out their music$pace and see them play live for free at this Citysol/Brooklyn Vegan stage…
Sunday
Of course, this is the kind of event that should last forever in the hearts of its participants and the flow of energy into everyone’s homes, but your last chance to join in the festivities (for this year) will be on Sunday. Therefore, Sunday is JAM-PACKED with important workshops that sound too fun to miss. Check the Citysol website for all the workshops that you can hop. My favorites include Biodiesel in a Blender where you get to actually make biodiesel on site! And the DIY Micro Turbines looks killer too, but there are also events in Urban Camping, Sound Walks in Acoustic Ecology, Go Kart Drag Racing, Making kites from recycled plastic bags and many more!
Best of all, the entire event is FREE FREE FREE! So take a walk outside, listen to fresh music, and make the world a better place for all!

I thought the Live Earth concert was an epic event, maybe more so in the context of this global community we are getting in touch with via live streaming broadcasts. While the focus was raising awareness of the state of emergency that we have put the planet in, the concert itself must have been incredibly detrimental to the environment. There were no solar and biodiesel stages, no workshops about DIY fuel and electricity generation, and none of the real life-sustaining changes in people’s minds, hearts, and daily activities the way that Citysol is effecting with this event. If you are in the NYC area, make sure not to miss this. It’s DIY community centered stuff that make real differences in the world.
And speaking of green, now that HearingTest has its own home and host, it is entirely eco-friendly! Our host is the fantastic Dreamhost which is 100% carbon-neutral and worker-owned, while the palette of colours used in the design is as low-watt as possible while still being accessible to everyone. So enjoy your daily fix of HearingTest’s music news and culture guilt-free! You will become an eco-enthusiast if you stick around here long!
