White Stripes To Play NYC, LA For Free

June 13th, 2007

I‘m not trying to be the local expert on White Stripes news, honest! But the dynamic duo pulls a new card out of their sleeves EVERY DAY!

The latest tricky treat is a FREE SHOW in LA one week from today. The dying pillar of music outlets, Tower Music, have built a special shrine to the White Stripes at their flagship store on the Sunset Strip. It’s now called “Icky Thump Records” instead of Tower Records. Oh you poor dying beast. Reduced to one release when you use to offer the Tower of Babel of new music. On Wednesday, June 20th, Jack and Meg will perform for 200 lucky fans on Wednesday at the new specialty store. According to Reuters:

Tickets for the 7 p.m. PDT show will be made available to the first 200 people who buy the album at the store after midnight on Monday. A handful of tickets will also be given away this weekend through a radio station.

So go get that album kids! And wrestle your neighbors for a ticket to the free show! I imagine a snarling mosh pit with the sounds of Icky Thump blasting over the store soundsystem. Not at the show, but on Monday night, in the fierce attempt to be one of those first 200 souls to get behind Jack and Meg!

The White Stripes will also play a “secret” NYC show, the night before, on Tuesday, June 19th: the same day that their album, Icky Thump is released and the night before their FREE show in L.A. That’s quite some jetsetting. Of course, this may be a more chill schedule than what they’ve grown accustomed to while bouncing around Europe. NME promises to have the details on the secret show on their website tomorrow, so check there for the scoop. Now that mag is in cahoots with the record label, I’m sure they will be the foremost source for all things Icky.
