Korn has kids. They worry about their kids’ kids. They worry that their kids’ kids will have to live underground because the surface of the planet is too hot thanks to us not being able to curb our greenhouse gases. At least, that’s what they told the press recently when they announced that all 8 of their tour buses and all 8 of their cargo trucks would be fueled with biodiesel on their Family Values tour this summer.
Reduction Is A Big Part Of Saving The Planet
OMJ why do they need 16 vehicles? If they really cared about the environment, wouldn’t they reduce how many vehicles they take on tour? They have more buses than band members! Plus 8 cargo trucks? Dang those guys must have a lot of kids! I digress, they will at least be running all of them on biodiesel which is a start. Apparently, the band is working with MusicMatters’ Sustainable Minded Artists Recording and Touring program to come up with their own formula for DIY biodiesel. The recipe is still being developed, but it will be revealed on Korn’s new website, Korntastic.com, when it is ready.
To be honest (I am deeply involved in the biodiesel and SVO movement, so this is a matter near and dear to me) I will be surprised, yet ecstatic if they are able to fuel up around the country on biodiesel. Biodiesel is not easy to find in most US cities, but with two 40 gallon tanks on some tour buses, it is possible to drive pretty far before refueling. Another thing to note, biodiesel comes in various ratios - most biodiesel is only 10-30% biodiesel mixed with regular diesel (called B10, B20, B30 etc.) Some places offer B80 - which is 80% biodiesel and 20% regular fuel - and very few places offer B100. That would be the kind you can make at home though. 100% Biodiesel (usually made from veggie oil) = B100. Biodiesel can fuel any diesel vehicle - straight from the factory - you do not need to make any changes to a diesel vehicle in order to run it on Biodiesel! One merely needs to make the decision to fuel their diesel vehicle with biodiesel, and then go out and find it. And, of course, most tour buses are diesel, so it is the smart choice for touring bands. Korn would want you to know all of this. As they stated at the press meeting:
We have the means to fuel cars in different ways. We have the technology to do it. We’re doing our part to set the wheels in motion.
Frontman Jonathon Davis also added:
I know it won’t happen overnight, but little things like this, everyone being conscious about it … we can’t change the world, but we can all make a difference.
Davis himself drives a Toyota Prius - an excellent car from what I’ve heard. Smart Choice Jonathon!
In addition to helping the planet, Korn also wants to perform for the troops. Therefore, they are giving away free Family Values tix to all US soldiers on leave who want to attend. They are working with the USO to make those tickets available to soldiers.
Korn’s new album hit stores today.
