Some artists survive on air and art alone. They do not require food or sleep, and if they do partake in such things it’s just for show. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for how they continue to produce quantities of high-calibre artwork. These are the people you wonder about every time they release something new, like “When did they have the time to do X, Y and Z while releasing A, B and C?!!” This is how I feel about 9th Wonder. The hip hop beat-meister is in the midst of releasing his first solo album because he’s usually too busy making the music tracks for the likes of Nas, Jean Grae, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Little Brother to name just a few. But just the other day I stumbled across another album that he is simultaneously producing beats for - an album with Buckshot of Duck Down Records, who also just signed KRS-One.
The Formula adds Buckshot to 9th Wonder
According to XXL Mag, 9th Wonder is producing an album with Buckshot (co-CEO of Duck Down Records) titled The Formula. Buckshot described the album to XXL Mag as this:
It’s a different scene. It’s a reflection of what needs to be said and it’s my manifestation. I’m trying to show people that I’m actually greater at what I do then what is perceived when I come up with concepts and stories. The things I do lyrically on this album aren’t easy. That’s the whole point of hip-hop, to do what’s not easy.
The Formula will be released this Fall, I presume on Buckshot’s own Duck Down Records.
KRS-One Signs Up To Duck Down
In other Duck Down news, the hip hop label has just signed KRS-One. Buckshot seems stoked about this, and proclaims that the label and KRS-One will be “going hard, as far as production wise.” So I guess we will see some new stuff from this corner soon!
