Lightspeed Champion Is Falling Off The Lavendar Bridge

September 23rd, 2007

I‘ve actually never heard of Lightspeed Champion before, have you? The UK mags are all abuzz about him this month and he sure looks interesting. They say he plays folky-pop songs. All I know is he might be the next big thing in your heart and that’s all that matters to me. So check this guy out:

Born in TEXAS raised in ESSEX - not as different as you would think… And you’d think he would prefer to hide this, but he used to be in a band called Test Icicles. Now he works closely with Bright Eyes, and Eyes’ producer Mike Mogis. Lightspeed Champion is also known as Dev Hynes and his new album will be next on the Domino Records itinerary. He plays folky pop songs that he is about to release on his solo debut album titled Falling Off The Lavender Bridge, which was recorded in Nebraska at a studio owned and built by Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis. The title, according to Dev, stems from childhood attempts at lucid dreaming:

“I used to be able to send myself into the same dream every night if I concentrated hard enough,” Dev explains. “I had a lavender frog which my mother gave me and I’d hug it until I fell asleep.”

The first single off the new album is “Galaxy of the Lost”:

FACT Mag interview
yeah, I know, they seem like they would be similar mags, but really they aren’t, usually. FADER is NYC based and FACT is London based and they don’t usually cover the same stuff…
