Everything Fit To Print About ([London])

The Bug, Ghislain, Plastician +More Live Like You Don’t Know In London

February 5th, 2008

Every time I see an amazing lineup for live music, like this one for Ninja Tunes’ record release party or the Bang Face Weekender, I have to ask myself an important question: Do I live on the wrong side of the pond? When every flyer and lineup that I drool over is happening in or near London, it gets more and more difficult to understand why I stay in the US, with the ever-weakening dollar. This is the time of year where party people in the UK and Europe start to promote major music festival weekends that have me gazing at my passport with longing. Next up is a Ninja Tune extravaganza at Electrowerkz in London. On 15th February, a massive posse of premier musicians will take over 3 whole floors of the Electrowerkz nightclub to celebrate the new release of YOU DON’T KNOW: NINJA CUTS - one floor for each CD in the monster compilation! (There’s a whole post about the Ninja Tune compilation too, so scope that next.) ([More →])

Multimedia Electronica Immersive Experience With UVA, Warp

August 31st, 2007

In my double-life as a jet-setting music enthusiast, I would definitely be in London (again, London… sigh.) on 6 and 7 and 9 September to enjoy two different audio-visual sensory-immersive events at the ICA. The three events feature music by Mathew Herbert, The Chemical Brothers, Battles, Plaid and many more electricians, while the visual includes works by Joji Koyama, Max Hattler, United Visual Artists, Flat Nose George plus many others. Vex’d, Bug, Sharpa, Konfab, Virus Syn +More At YDK

June 20th, 2007

Last week I mentioned that Ninja Tune and Big Dada would present an event curated by Mary Anne Hobbs in London on the 7th of July. I received more info about this event, so I want to share them with folks who will be in the London area that week.

Ms. Hobbs states that her desire for the lineup she has chosen is, “To bring together dark exotic underground textures of sound from the UK and internationally..”

Metallica Joins Live Earth, RAN, WWF +More

June 19th, 2007

Today’s theme is charities that benefit from rock merch…

Metallica is the latest addition to London’s Live Earth concert on 07/07/07. Immediately after their performance, an exclusive download of the set will be available for a reasonable fee. All the proceeds from the sale of this download will be donated to the 4 climate charities that Metallica has chosen:
Sierra Club
The Apollo Alliance
WWF
Rainforest Action Network

That last one is one of my fave NGOs. Sierra Club and WWF have some issues and may not be truly charitable. The download will be available on iTunes and Metallica’s own live show download page, livemetallica.com

AND, even though Live Earth has long been sold out, Metallica must have been given some tix when they were added on at a late hour because MetClub members can find out how to purchase a ticket. See the Live Earth news on the Metallica website for more info.

That better be a biodiesel or veggie oil truck they’re riding around in! Knowing this fella, it’s pure ethanol, eh?
