Mavado recorded a dubplate special for Barack Obama on Baby G’s Mission Riddim! Meanwhile, his remix with Jay-Z is topping the charts and he recorded music for Grand Theft Auto IV. Life is treating David Brooks pretty well in ‘08!
Mavado Supports Obama
He may not be a US citizen, but Mavado spends nuff time in Miami and NYC. Seems he cares about who becomes the next President of the United States and is making his voice heard. Russell Simmons and Green Lantern (the dj not the super hero) asked the Real McKoy to contribute a song for GL’s mixtape of Obama anthems. So, Mavado revoiced “On The Rock” into “We Need Barack”! The mixtape will also feature Mos Def, Jay-Z, Kanye and Common.

Mavado & Jay-Z On The Rock
“The Rock” is another remix of Mavado’s tune, this time featuring Jay-Z. It’s been spinning here for a few weeks now and it just hit #1 on the US reggae radio charts.

Mavado + GTA IV
If you spent anytime in NYC during the sweltering part of last summer, especially near Jamaica or Brooklyn, you probably hear Mavado’s voice just thinking about it. His Anywaayyy floated out of boom boom cars and drifted across the city every day. It’s no wonder Rockstar Games thought of him when they needed music to complete their perfectly-reconstructed NYC landscape. Green Lantern is the new dj (for KJAH radio?) in the video game, so he probably worked with Mavado on the game’s soundtrack. Mavado’s “Real McKoy” is the theme song for the last GTA IV preview, which you can watch here:
