I spoke with Winston Holness aka Niney The Observer just after today’s inauguration ceremonies ended. (Niney was in London and I in California, but we were both aware of what was taking place in D.C..) We got on the topic of today’s youth and generations to come, when Niney compared the positive attitude and message that Obama brings to U.S. government with the attitude and vibe that today’s music should have. He said music changes the world, so it should be positive.
Here’s a ruff transcription of what he’s said:
Now you see we have a president today, come in today, not comin’ to preach violence today, comin’ to preach LOVE.
So you have to put a lot of love in the music. And so, [if] you put a lot of love in the music, the whole world would be LOVE.
Lighters in the air – let me hear ya say JAH! RasTafari.
If you’d like to hear Niney’s voice as he says these words, jump over to my MOG page:

Niney mentioned that The Observer label will be releasing a lot of vinyl soon and he’s currently working on two tracks with Beenie Man, so stay tuned for that!
I don’t know about anyone else, but this has me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to hear those tunes with Beenie Man and I can’t wait to collect Observer vinyl. He also had some fascinating things to say about ragga-jungle music too, but I’m saving that for the next installment….
