The Bug, Ghislain, Plastician +More Live Like You Don’t Know In London

February 5th, 2008

Every time I see an amazing lineup for live music, like this one for Ninja Tunes’ record release party or the Bang Face Weekender, I have to ask myself an important question: Do I live on the wrong side of the pond? When every flyer and lineup that I drool over is happening in or near London, it gets more and more difficult to understand why I stay in the US, with the ever-weakening dollar. This is the time of year where party people in the UK and Europe start to promote major music festival weekends that have me gazing at my passport with longing. Next up is a Ninja Tune extravaganza at Electrowerkz in London. On 15th February, a massive posse of premier musicians will take over 3 whole floors of the Electrowerkz nightclub to celebrate the new release of YOU DON’T KNOW: NINJA CUTS - one floor for each CD in the monster compilation! (There’s a whole post about the Ninja Tune compilation too, so scope that next.)

Ninja Tune flyer for 15 February 2008

According to a press release delivered by stealthy news ninjas, the party is going to be Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad mad mad mad:

The central floor of Electrowerkz will offer the classic Ninja experience with Solid Steel Presents, where DJ Food, Jon More (Coldcut), Zero dB and Bonobo will work those wheels in a manner which will nod back to the days of Stealth at the Blue Note and to the future of unfeasibly loud bass and much machine-funk.

Downstairs, Big Dada producer extraordinaire Xrabit will present a set of exclsuive dub plates, mash-ups and forthcoming material from his album with Texan duo DMG$, but the main pull of the evening will be one of the first UK shows by punk-club lunatics The Death Set, all the way from Baltimore and ready to smash stuff up, on the floor with the crowd. Turntable duties will come from Alex Miller, esteemed DJ and journo for the NME.

Up top, an evening of heavy mentalism will ensue. First up is Quebecois production wunderkind Ghislain Poirier, complete with drummer and MC person. He will be followed by the world-esteemed dubstep/grimey fellow Plastician before the evening is rounded off in the piercing company of The Bug, joined for the night by Flowdan, sometime Roll Deep MC and general mic killer©, to unleash the assault that is the upcoming Bug album.

If this isn’t enough the latest Ninja vids will be playing in the videolounge and there are still more artists to be added to the bill. Im sure we’ll sell a cup of Mr Scruff Tea too, but this aint confirmed!

So now you know you don’t know. Be there or forever live in darkness and regret.

I’m already living in regret over missing this party (and the last 4 Ninja Tune parties that I have reported). That top floor is going to be mennnnnnnntal!!! Ghislain Poirier has been repping for Ninja Tune worldwide, instigating mayhem everywhere he lands. And don’t even get me started on The Bug and Flowdan and the SKENG/Poison Darts that will be flying, or Plastician? Oh! It Hurts!

Ninja Tune sez:

“You Don’t Know” will look back, forward and sideways all at the same time, if you catch our drift! Aiming to put the night on every 3 months, this first line up has a strong Ninja presence to help launch the compilation, future ones will involve lots of exciting non-ninja friends!
