I have seen the future, and it is filled with conscious reggae. Not long ago, Island celebrated the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley’s Exodus album by reissuing it on USB and Micro SD digital devices, as well as mp3, CD and vinyl. Yesterday, the Anglican Church in Jamaica announced that the next publication of its church hymnal will include Peter Tosh’s version of “Psalm 27″ and Bob Marley’s “One Love” in the book of hymns!
Rev Canon Ernle Gordon of the Church of St Mary the Virgin announced the addition at the 2007 Michael Manley awards function for community self-reliance at the Little Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.
The new hymn books will be released by the end of the year.
Jamaica Observer has the full story.
Did Peter Tosh write a Psalm 27? Or was it 24? I believe “Black Dignity” covers Psalm 24, but does anyone know more about others?
The gorgeous, uplifting “One Love”:
You can almost hear this ringing out of church windows…

What Do You Think? ↓

I don’t think he did, but he did a song called “Creation” that has quite a lot of Psalm 27″ in it along with stuff from other psalms and other scripture.

You’re right, “Creation” is a solid guess. I still can’t find any news source that reports which song they are referring to. So, for now, we can only guess. But if you read the lyrics of Peter Tosh’s songs, you can find quite a few that would be appropriate for church! Maybe they should include more than just one in the new hymnals! Same with Bob Marley! I’m pleased that reggae music is being officially recognized as spiritual music.
