Sean Kingston’s Sweet Deal, 2 Singles In Top 20

August 16th, 2007

Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” begins week three at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart today. Watch out for this kid - he seems like the sweet harmless type, but he’s one savvy teen. Plus, he seems to be getting the sweet end of the Epic stick. Turns out that Epic has outsourced the marketing of Sean Kingston’s debut album to Koch Records. Combining Epic’s resources with Koch’s targeted marketing might be better than a single record deal with either one!

Kingston’s newest single, “Me Love” is the Hot 100 music chart’s fastest horse this week. It jumped from slot #28 to slot #15 in just one week to become the chart’s “greatest digital gainer.” We just might see Sean Kingston’s “Me Love” boot Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” from the throne! Has that ever happened?

Once again, here is “Beautiful Girls”:

Here is “Me Love” (no official video is out yet):

Music industry watchdog hypebot has a different opinion about Epic’s decision to hand their hip hop marketing over to Koch:

In the new music business, if your label is not your marketer; what is it good for?

In other words, Kingston should get Koch’s digits from Foxy and bust a move. Either way, Kingston is enjoying plenty of promotion. Not only is “Beautiful Girls” still on top of the charts, it’s been downloaded more times than any song except Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Koch may be a better hip hop label, with good street cred, but Epic is a major with more money and more mainstream options. So at the end of the day, I guess it’s up to Kingston if he wants to be known as a hip hop star or a pop star….
