South Rakkas Crew Mixing Up Dancehall Music

October 22nd, 2007

South Rakkas Crew has joined forces with Mad Decent (Diplo’s record label) and is set to release a full-length LP of bumpin choons! Their sound is a unique mixture of dancehall, hip hop, electro and Miami bass and they are set to release their debut album, The Mix Up on Mad Decent on October 29th.

“Crack Whore Riddim” by South Rakkas Crew:

Riddims And Remixes

Perhaps most famous for their remix of Lily Allen’s “Sun Is In The Sky” which became the “Crack Whore Riddim” (ooooh! SNAP!) it was their Bionic Ras riddim that first grabbed my attention. Pon first listen of Bionic Ras I was hooked and I knew these would be the hot producers to keep an ear on this year. The Mix Up features some of dancehall’s most esteemed deejays: Capleton, TOK Mr. Vegas and more on 10 totally smokin tunes. A highlight of the album will definitely be their remake of Barrington Levy’s 1994 hit “Under Mi Sensi.” SRC will also tour in support of the new release, starting in eastern Canada November 7th.

South Rakkas Crew originally hail from Canada, they’re currently based out of Orlando, Florida and the new album was recorded in Jamaica. So, you can see why they have such a mix of influences in their music! Pitchf*#k has called them “My favorite producers on the planet right now” while Greensleeves hails them as “a dancefloor FILLER and a radio KILLER!” These boys are definitely going to take dancehall to the next level and wow an international audience. It would be simply fantastic to see them outsell Sean Paul and let the world hear what dancehall is really about…

They have it cheaper than anywhere else. I bought my copy there and received in the mail just a few days later even though it has to cross the entire US in the mail!
