MI.A. loves San Francisco! And how could she not, after last weekend’s performance on the idyllic Treasure Island? (I have a fabulous review of her performance as Pirate Queen of the Island refugees!) And surely she wasn’t going to let a tiny bar event that sold out immediately and a huge music festival with 8 other bands be her only shows in SF this year. Was she? No! M.I.A. has just added TWO new SF shows to her tour calendar! We also have a beautiful East African remix of her “Paper Planes” to share with you!

Esau Mwamwaya Remixes “Paper Planes”
I found this beautiful remix on nialler9 music blog. I’m always finding wonderful treasures over there, definitely a fave blog of mine.
According to nialler9, the remix is by Esau Mwamwaya of Malawi who now lives in East London and makes music with Radioclit. If you like the song to begin with, def go check out this version. It has East African vocals in a native dialect over the original riddim, and then M.I.A.’s vocals come in at the end. It’s a beautiful mixture of the world elements that M.I.A. strives for in her music, so I think this remix does great things for her overall musical goals. Vote “Jimmy” For Rebel Playlist
In other M.I.A. news this week, the BBC 6 Radio dj, Steve Lamacq, has what he calls a “Rebel Playlist” each week. This week, one of the songs competing to make it onto that list is M.I.A.’s gorgeous Sri Lankan traditional, “Jimmy.” You can help her make it onto the list by going over to the radio show website and voting for it.
