These Hemp Speakers are Smokin!

July 23rd, 2007

How do all-organic, fair-trade speakers sound? I have yet to try, but this has got to be the next best thing – HEMP speakers for your home stereo, your hemp guitar, or your dub soundsystem. Check these beauties out! Hemp board cabinet construction, with a bamboo outer shell. Fully-loaded with hemp cones in the drivers. Who would turn such a concept into reality and then offer Hand-Dyed One-of-a-KIND Speaker Grills to go with? Hard Truckers does.

Hemp and Bamboo Speakers

The San Francisco sound specialists who designed, built and trucked the mobile Wall of Sound that religiously toured with the Grateful Dead that’s who! Hard Truckers is back in business and offering high-end acoustic enjoyment. Their website proclaims:

Using new materials of the highest sound quality and new ideas the Hard Truckers are breaking new paths in sound and stage performance. With deep roots in the sound legacy of the Wall of Sound; the Hard Truckers pay tribute, in performance and craftsmanship, to this legendary performing history.

I highly recommend a peek at the Hard Truckers website, you might bump into Bob, Trey, Darkstar Orc, or The Radiators rockin out on some fine Truckin gear. I am seriously going to look into this company. I’d seen hemp plywood years ago, and was quite impressed with its strength and it seemed durable. I’ve been saying for years now – that if I could just find a (consumer) source for hemp plywood, I would build speakers out of it. I’ve been dying to test out hemp wood and bamboo’s acoustic properties in sound design. I’m not surprised that someone like this beat me to the punch.
