Top Electronic Sonics on ([HearingTest]) in 2007

December 30th, 2007

Continuing with our REWIND! of 2007, here are the Top 10 Electronic Musings on ([HearingTest]) in 2007… All but “Lion” were released this year, and most of them can be found on BLEEP.com or Boomkat.com. 2007 was also a great year for watching the magic of electronic synthesis and we enjoyed watching loads of wonderful videos. I consider myself very lucky to have attended some of the Bay Area’s hottest live electronic music performances and somewhat capture them on video. It’s all here as we REWIND! 2007’s Greatest Hits!

Top 10 Electronic Sonics on ([HearingTest]) in 2007

As with the other lists this week, the tunes are organized more for smooth listening than any other criteria. They’re already the best of the best, no need to divide them any further!

  • Benga + Coki - “Night”
  • Burial - Tracks from Untrue mixed by Kode 9
  • Vex’d - “Lion” (not released this year, but this tune was featured in the Vex’d concert review)
  • Holy Fuck - “Choppers”
  • Leyode - “Sophie”
  • Bjork - “Innocence (SMD remix)”
  • Pole - “Achterbahn (Frivolous Remix)”
  • Murcof - “Cometa”
  • Murcof - “Cielo”
  • gas - “microscopic”

Best Electronic Music Action, As Seen On ([HT]) TV

In addition to audio streams of consciousness, ([HearingTest]) also featured some of the year’s best electronic music videos. I managed some reasonable footage from some amazing live shows, like the Underworld concert, .pig performance and Spectrum show to name a few.
2007 was also shaped by videos of Daft Punk, Bjork and the reacTable synth.

Damian Taylor played a reacTable synth at Glastonbury with Bjork:

Kanye West made Daft Punk’s tune even Stronger:

([HearingTest]) Was On The Scene At Some Of SF’s Hottest Electronic Performances In 2007

Underworld enchanted their fans in San Francisco:

Spectrum’s music felt like a cool breeze on a sweltering night in SF:

I wanted to stay forever in the surround sound/surround video environment created by Biosphere at Recombinant Media Labs:

DuranDuranDuran made Halloween a little spookier in Oakland:

Drum Corps (Aaron Spectre) didn’t need a costume to look dreadful for Halloween: ;)

.pig makes Mexico City noise-core and brought it to the Artaud Theater in SF:

It’s hard to see in the darkness of videos from 5lowershop parties, but the dancefloor is always going nuts and the bass bins are kicking ass. Like these quick clips from the Teen Suicide 002 Record Release party (which featured Doormouse, End.User, Arson, Bonk, 666 Gangstaz, Hrock, _theStapler_, and Rtype pummeling eardrums and intestines all night!):

There were also some great stories this year about Podington Bear and BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
