I don’t have a full concert review to share just yet, but I wanted to give you a glimpse at what happened last night when Pato Banton came to town. He performed at the Independent, with the Mystic Roots as backup. He had just launched into his biggest hit song - “Gwarn” when he noticed a guy in the audience wearing a GWARN T-shirt. He pulled that guy up on stage and the two of them ended up doing the most ridiculous duet I have ever seen! Pato swears it wasn’t rigged and you could see the genuine surprise on his face when this guy, Frank, busts out.
Frank knew every word and ended up delivering it so well that Pato ended up just lip-syncing! By the middle of the song, Pato wasn’t using his mic, he was just laughing and miming the song while Frank spit out every word. It was hilarious!
I only have a little digital camera that can take super short videos, so I didn’t get all of it recorded. But I think there’s enough to give you an idea!
Pato starts with “Gwarn”:
Pato meets Frank and they slay “Gwarn” together:
I thought you might enjoy these clips, see what a reggae concert go like…

I’d like to thank you for posting that video of me, but unfortunately, it wasn’t me. I did however go up on stage with him in his following shows in Santa Cruz, and in Sacramento. I too however am a Sober Pato fan who lives in San Francisco. I just got 7 years on May 7th. I am going to see his show at the DNA lounge in June with some other recovering friends. If you would like to join our group I would be delighted to meet you. Then, hopefully you can take a vid. clip of me with Pato! you can email me at janderholm@hotmail.com I really hope you join us.
Peace, Jason

This is a video of Frank on stage with Pato in September 2007. This is different than the video I have of “Jason” singing “King Step” with Pato in October 2007. To see the footage from the October show, go here:

That may not be you either, but perhaps another Jason? I would swear he said his name was Jason and it was his birthday. But, I could be wrong; I was pretty irie the whole time Pato was in the room!
There’s only one thing in the world that could make me miss a Pato Banton show. Alas, I’ll be at AMF when Pato is in SF next and I don’t think we’ll cross paths. : (
